New video single from “Spells and Incantations: the best of Sacred Oath.”
Sacred Oath have released the video “Blood Storm” on YouTube
to celebrate their exclusive digital release “Spells and Incantations” on iTunes
today May 15th. The video contains rare
performance clips and photos from the band’s personal archives spanning their
25-year tenure in the metal underground.
“I think perseverance is something to be celebrated,” says
Rob Thorne, the band’s singer/guitarist.
“It hasn’t been easy for us. It
isn’t easy for anybody, really, but 25 years is a long time to hang in this
business without the support of a record label.
I like to think of us as pure, uncut.
Or stupid.”
The best-of collection “Spells and Incantations” was released
today as a specially-priced iTunes exclusive metal album for just $5.99. Two previously unreleased bonus tracks are
included. A digipack CD hits stores and other digital outlets on May 29th through Super D and MVD distribution.
The video can be seen for free HERE.

The band chose a piece from Jason Beam for the cover art on this release (Darkness Visible, Till Death Do Us Part) and photos taken by Mark Weiss. Expect more announcements regarding exclusive download pre-releases in the coming weeks.
New song premier Friday February 3
Members of Sacred Oath (both past and present) will be on hand to premier a new recording this Friday February 3rd at 9 p.m. EST on WVOX in New York. Original bassist Pete Altieri will be calling in to join Rob Thorne, Kenny Evans, Bill Smith, and Brendan Kelleher along with Metal Mayhem host Matt O’Shaughnessy to spin the latest recording from Sacred Oath – “Posers Must Die” – featuring Pete Altieri on lead vocals. The song was a popular anthem at early-era live Oath shows in 1985-1986, where Pete Altieri would climb out of a coffin covered in blood with his custom “blood bass.”
Premiering this song is the first in a series of events that the band is planning to celebrate the 25th anniverary of their debut album “A Crystal Vision.” Announcements will be made on-air about future events, so tune in this friday night to WVOX!
Original drummer Kenny Evans back in the saddle
The big announcement from the Sacred Oath camp on 11-11-11 is that original drummer Kenny Evans is back with the boys and ready to begin working on the new album.
Evans, who has played drums with the band since 1986 and recorded virtually everything the band has ever done (aside from the first demo tape in 1985), is back from several months in Florida where he was recovering from a devastating spinal injury. The injury forced him to miss several live performances with the band including the Ragnarokkr Metal Apocalypse in Chicago on October 1st.
Plans for 2012 include a “Best Of” compilation release and a brand new album
“Best Of” in the works
The band is planning a “Best Of” compilation for release in 2012 while working in the studio on new recordings. Most of the songs have been chosen already, but feel free to make suggestions on the official Facebook page!
Drummer Kenny Evans suffers severe injury
Drummer Kenny Evans, who has been with Sacred Oath since recording the band’s classic debut “A Crystal Vision” in 1987, has suffered a severe injury to his spine and requires surgery. As a result, he will be unable to perform in the fall US tour in October.
“We’re all very worried about him,” said bandleader and singer Rob Thorne in an interview with DJ Roger Lotring on 91.7 WHUS in Connecticut last night. “We were hoping he could rehabilitate without surgery, but after the last show we did in New Haven he couldn’t walk for almost a week. He’s in serious, serious pain.”
Evans and Thorne have worked tirelessly the last several years to reestablish Sacred Oath as a contender in the world of heavy metal music, recording and releasing four studio albums and one live album in the past 5 years. Their latest video “Meet Your Maker” recently premiered with MTV networks and the band’s last two discs have been top sellers on iTunes.
For the tour, Sacred Oath have hired Chilean drummer Ignacio Orellana. Ignacio has been part of many projects and bands such as PIROSAINT, DOWNFIRE(US) and former METAL CHURCH and current PRESTO BALLET singer RONNY MUNROE’s solo band and the charity effort CHILEANMETAL:Relief 2010. He has also been working on a label that promotes South American Metal called Digmetalworld.
“This is a temporary replacement, and we’re all hopeful that Kenny will recover from surgery and be able to record the next Sacred Oath album,” said Thorne. “We’ve been together for so long, I can’t imagine an album without him. But Ignacio has been a blessing. He is a fantastic drummer, knows the material, and most importantly, is sensitive to the situation. We’re confident the tour will be strong.”
Meet Your Maker video goes global
All of you international Oathbangers will be able to view the new Meet Your Maker video on Tuesday August 2nd when it features on Windows Media Guide. It is also available for viewing NOW on our myspace and YouTube Official channel.
Exclusive video premier with MTV today
MTV Networks has the exclusive premier of the new music video “Meet Your Maker” from Sacred Oath today on their Clutch Blog homepage.
Filmed by director Kristen Powers in a haunted forest in Connecticut, “Meet Your Maker” is a fiery pagan ritual complete with dancing witches and the disembodied floating head of the band’s singer/guitarist Rob Thorne. “We had a pretty clear vision of what we wanted in this video,” said Thorne in a recent interview. “It had to be dark and spooky with a classic metal vibe. Everyone worked hard to make it happen and we had fun like we always do.”
Sacred Oath was formed in 1985 by Thorne and currently includes original drummer Kenny Evans, Bill Smith on guitar, and Brendan Kelleher on bass. Their latest album “World On Fire” was released in November and “Meet Your Maker” is the first video produced from it. A tour in the United States is currently being planned for late September and October.
“Meet Your Maker” is the third video produced by the band. Their last video for “Counting Zeros” premiered with MTV2 on Headbanger’s Ball in May 2009.

The Revolution begins
Sacred Oath has released a digital 45 – “Revolution” – exclusively through iTunes today March 15th. The format offers a “B-side” track and so a previously unreleased track “Burn Away (Loki’s Song)” is included in the package. This is the first commercially available release of a single from the World On Fire album.
“The world really is on fire,” says the band’s primary songwriter and lead singer Rob Thorne. “Conceptually, we chose to do this album on ‘Dune’ because there are so many parallels with the struggles on our planet here and now, and revolution in this country seems inevitable. It was kind of freaky to see the revolutions here in Wisconsin and also in the Middle East break out just a couple months after the album was released.”
